Abstract

Dear all,

We invite you to submit an abstract to our session and look forward to you joining us at AGU 2017 in New Orleans, December 11 - 15, 2017.

V036: Volcanic Ash—Generation, Transport, Impacts, and Application
Session ID#: 29275
https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm17/preliminaryview.cgi/Session29275

Volcanic ash has short- and long-term impacts on human health, the environment, and aviation. Its life cycle from generation to preservation in the geologic record is important to our understanding of eruption hazards and broader interactions with the environment and climate system. Its presence in geological, paleoenvironmental, and archeological sedimentary sequences facilitates the study of volcanic impacts on climate, environment and society, the discernment of volcanic responses to deglaciation, and the testing and improvement of age models derived by other methodologies. This session brings together interdisciplinary studies on ash-producing eruptions, from particle-scale interactions to global-scale transport, remote sensing of volcanic emissions, numerical modeling of plume dynamics, forecasting of airborne concentrations and hazards, and the long-ranging direct and indirect impacts of ash and other volcanic products on climate, ecosystems, agriculture and human health. We welcome perspectives from applied tephrochronology, archaeology, atmospheric sciences, geochemistry, geophysics, palaeoecology, and volcanology.
