Abstract
The site interprets the exposed section of the Mesoproterozoic mid-continent rift, the Keweenaw Peninsula and Isle Royale, Michigan. It includes some of Earth's most voluminous lava flows, a large thrust fault, a vast sequence of fluvial red beds and unique native copper deposits. The geology has strongly influenced humans since the Pleistocene. This site is intended to support outdoor exploration and education about the Earth and how it works in an area where there are many strong and informative field occurrences. There is an assembly of basic information in lectures and web materials here, and this is followed by specific field sites, their description, location and geointerpretation.
VHub linkage may help increase international awareness of the site and encourage field visits, especially from researchers interested in magma oceans (In situ differentiation of lava flows) and early continental rifting.
