  • Biography
My name is Lizzette A. Rodriguez and I am an Assistant Professor and the current Director of the Geology Department at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus (UPRM). I am puertorrican and studied my Bachelor's and Master's in Geology at UPRM, where I focused on research on ground deformation produced by volcanic events or changes in activity at the Soufriere Hills volcano, Montserrat. Then I moved to Houghton, Michigan, where I worked on my PhD at Michigan Technological University. My research was on sulfur dioxide emissions and loss rates from volcanoes in Central America, Chile, and Montserrat. I moved back home in the fall of 2006, when I started teaching at UPRM. My current research is focused on volcanic emissions, including gas and ash emissions from active volcanoes in Latin America and the Caribbean, using remote sensing techniques (satellite and ground-based). I am also very interested on volcano education and outreach. I am currently the Regional Adviser for Central American and the Caribbean, for the Asociacion Latinoamericana de Volcanologia (ALVO), and the Treasurer of the Geological Society of Puerto Rico.
