Synergistic activities:
• Worked actively with young researchers in several countries to apply software developed in my laboratories to active and potentially dangerous volcanoes. The countries of the researchers include: Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, France, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Peru, & Spain. Workshops and individual visits to UB occurred. Commendation from the governor of Puebla State, Mexico, for cooperative work on creating a hazard map of Popocatépetl Volcano, 1995. Commendation for research and education of young Mexican researchers, Colima International Reunion, Mexico 1998,
• Organized symposia on “Computer assisted simulations of natural phenomena for hazard assessment” EGS - AGU - EUG Joint Assembly, Nice, France, April 2003 & EGU Nice 2004, and EGU Vienna 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, & 2010..
• Invited as a keynote speaker on volcanic hazards: 1) workshop on Vesuvius held in Naples, Italy, 2003; 2) GSA Penrose conference on Mexican Volcanoes held in Puebla, Mexico, January 2004, 3) IAVCEI Cities on Volcanoes in Quito, Ecuador, January 2005, Symposium on volcanic raisk in Naples 2009.
• Invited by DOD to organize and participate in a workshop on volcanic hazard reduction in the Andes held in Quito, Ecuador February 2003.
• Invited by USAID/OXFAM to evaluate the October 2005 mud flow disaster at Panabaj, Guatemala in May 2006.
